My Message

Some marathons are easy to get in to, others... not so much.  The Boston Marathon, one of 6 World Major Marathons, is one of the hardest to get in to.  Unlike other large marathons, there is no lottery to enter, they choose simply based on speed - the fastest in each age group get in.  Achieving a Boston Qualifying time (BQ) is the goal of many amateur marathoners.  I came within 12 minutes this past summer in making BQ for my age and gender.

This next October though I have the opportunity to run in one of the other 6 World Major Marathons, the Chicago Marathon.  Considered to be one of the fastest courses (it is very flat) and with focused training over the next 10 months, I hope to be able to run and to finish with a BQ time.

To gain entry into the Chicago Marathon I will need to join up with a sponsoring charity (I missed qualifying time for Chicago by just 2 minutes this past summer).  After looking through the list of sponsoring charities, I quickly settled on Special Olympics of Chicago.  Having an adult son with Down syndrome, I have been exposed to and have attended many Special Olympic events.  Besides the well known Track and Field events, Daniel has also been able to participate in skiiing, equestrian, swimming, bowling, golf and other events.  The Special Olympic organization has been a big part of Daniel's growing up as well as now in his adult life as well.  They serve and provide opportunities to so many people.

I am both proud to and honored to run the Chicago Marathon both with and in support of Special Olympics of Chicago! I'm also proud to run this marathon for Daniel, my own Special Olympian!

How can you help?

You can help me support SCC/Special Olympics Chicago by making a donation. I need to raise $1500 (minimum) between now and October 2018.  The process is fast, easy, and secure. I truly appreciate any support you can provide. It will benefit a great cause!

If you can't make a donation at this point, you can still help me reach my goal by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter!  Or, even better, send an e-mail to friends you think might be interested in contributing and include a link to my page!

Should you wish to make a donation via check, those contributions can be sent to us along with a note to credit your page.  Mail to:  SCC/Special Olympics Chicago, 541 N. Fairbanks Court, Chicago, IL 60611
