Help Athletes Compete!

Fundraising Goal $1,750.00

My Message

So I've reached my goal, but that doesn't mean the fundraising has to stop...

Over the past 3 months, I put off signing up for my first marathon as I truly wasn't able to commit the 26.2 long miles. Lo and behold I find myself chatting with a friend about the topic and finally had no excuses...she had discovered the one way to motivate me to run. Bring Billy into it.

Knowing that there was no chance I would qualify based off my Atlanta Half Marathon time, and after speaking with the same friend who told me that I had missed the lottery, I learned the only way to participate was to pick a charity and raise money for that organization. Right off the bat, it was a no brainer that my organization would be Special Olympics.

What so many people don't know is that in order to compete in the games, any Special Olympics team has to do their own fundrasing. Learning this fact pushed me to join the Special Olympics team, Special K's, Fundraising board in Georgia; so if I can extend this fundraising to Chicago, why not??

Special Olympics is an organization so close to my heart as it is has provided my family so many fun events and memories over the years. Beyond how much it means to me, my brother Billy (30, Downs Syndrome. Competed in Weight Lifting, Golf, Bowling, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field in the games) has gained social skills and life long friends through this charity.

This is for Billy, for his friends here in Georgia who compete in the games, for the 5.3 million athletes and Unified Partners who participate in the games.

Thank you taking the time to read my story and any gift you can offer is greatly appreciated. It is supporting something much larger than me!
